Episode 11 - Chris Hawkins
This week John and I head up (figuratively speaking) to Far North Queensland and chat with emergency nursing all-rounder Chris Hawkins. Chris is one of five nurse practitioners currently working in Cairns ED and has a long and varied history in emergency and critical care nursing. These span roles such as ICU and CCU NUM in regional Victoria to Metropolitan ED Clinical Nurse Specialist, ED educator, PG ED university lecturer and Nurse practitioner.
Chris sits on the Clinical Council and the Credentialing Steering Committee of the Cairns Hospital and Hinterland Health Service, and as you will hear has a great way of looking at emergency care in Australia. During our chat we cover the challenges and benefits of working in FNQ, clinical governance in different states and his thoughts on the world of emergency Nurse Practitioners.
